Before applying for any of these awards, familiarize yourself with university procedures for responding to solicitations. Many of these opportunities must be submitted through the Office of Sponsored Programs. You should first speak with your mentor/advisor, fiscal administrator and Office of Sponsored Programs before submitting a grant application. Summer Fellowship Program
American Institute for Economic Research
Summer fellowships are awarded to graduating seniors applying to doctoral programs in economics or an affiliated program; and to students already enrolled in such programs.

James E. Webb Internship Program for Minority Undergraduate Seniors and Graduate Students in Business and Public Administration
Smithsonian Institution
The sponsor awards stipends to support internship projects at the Smithsonian Institution for U.S. minority undergraduate seniors and graduate students in business and public administration.

Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity--Nurse/MBA Scholars Program
American Academy of Nursing
The sponsor provides support for applicants who wish to pursue a business degree at a highly ranked school of business, anticipating a career focus on the management/leadership of institutions serving the elderly.

Anthropology Internship Program
American Museum of Natural History
Offers internships for undergraduate and graduate students to work on projects relating to the collections or to the ongoing research interests of the curatorial staff in the museum or in the field.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP)
Competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. 

Student Research Fellowship Awards
Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
Fellowships of $2,500 are available for undergraduate, medical or graduate students (not yet engaged in thesis research) in accredited North American institutions to spend ten weeks performing research on topics relevant to inflammatory bowel disease.

Behavioral Sciences Student Fellowships
Epilepsy Foundation of America
Three-month fellowships in the amount of $3,000 offer qualified individuals the opportunity to develop expertise in epilepsy research. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an appropriate undergraduate or graduate program in the behavioral sciences and studying in a field relevant to epilepsy research or clinical care.

AGA Student Research Fellowship Awards
Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition pdf logo
The sponsor provides support for students to spend time performing research in the areas of digestive diseases or nutrition for a minimum of ten weeks. Eligible applicants may be high school, undergraduate, medical, or graduate students (not yet engaged in thesis research) at accredited North American institutions.

Summer Fellowship Program
Parkinson's Disease Foundation
Support is provided for summer study in the area of Parkinson's disease by undergraduate and medical students under the supervision of an established investigator. Awards provide a stipend for ten weeks.

Cecille Gould Fund
American Foundation for Aging Research
Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the Cecille Gould which is intended for basic cancer research only, particularly neurological research. Must be genetic, molecular or cellular research. Award up to $1,000.

General AFAR Grants
American Foundation for Aging Research
Awards are open to students who are in bachelors, masters, Ph.D., MD, DDS, DVM degree programs and are conducting research at an institution in the United States. AFAR offers $500 for undergraduates, $1,000 for graduates. These awards are renewable each semester.

Student Traineeships
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Student traineeships are offered to introduce students to research related to CF. Applicants must be students in or about to enter a doctoral program (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD). Senior-level undergraduates planning to pursue graduate training may also apply. Each applicant must work with a faculty sponsor on a research project related to CF.

College Scholarship Program
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The College Scholarship Program is available on a competitive basis to community college, four-year college, and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. Award amounts generally range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Grants-in-Aid of Research
Sigma Xi
Graduate and undergraduate student grants-in-aid are offered for scientific investigation in any field.

Humane Studies Fellowships
Institute for Humane Studies
The sponsor provides fellowships to support the work of outstanding students who are interested in exploring the principles, practices and institutions necessary to a free society through their academic work. Eligible applicants must be full-time graduate students or undergraduate students with junior or senior standing in the 2008-09 academic year.

National Institute of Standards and Technology: Professional Research Experience Program (PREP)
Professional Research Experience Program (PREP)
The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is designed by the NIST Boulder Laboratories to provide valuable laboratory experience and financial assistance to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students. Fellowships are awarded to assure continued growth and progress of science and engineering in the United States.

Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS)
National Aeronautics & Space Administration
Support is provided for in-residence research opportunities to undergraduate juniors and seniors and first year graduate students studying aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, atmospheric science, astrophysics, physics, chemistry, or selected aerospace-related disciplines of interest to the sponsor. Each student receives a stipend of $4,500.

Developing Global Scientists and Engineers
Directorate for Social, Behavorial and Economic Sciences/NSF
The sponsor provides support for international research and education for early career stages of scientists and engineers, i.e., as undergraduates and graduate students.

Campus Ecology Fellowship Program
National Wildlife Federation pdf logo
The sponsor provides Fellowships to undergraduate and graduate students working with other members of the faculty,staff, or administration on projects designed to help reverse global warming on campus and beyond.

Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI)
Office of Science/Department of Energy
The sponsor places students in paid internships in Science and Engineering at any of several Department of Energy facilities. Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs.

Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Undergraduate Student Fellowships (NCER)
Environmental Protection Agency
The sponsor offers fellowships to support quality environmental education for undergraduate students, thereby encouraging them to pursue careers in environmentally related fields and to continue their education beyond the baccalaureate level. Fellowships cover stipend, tuition, and expenses for a two year period. A summer internship is also required.

Achieving Competency in Careers in Engineering and Space Sciences (ACCESS)
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
ACCESS provides experiences at a NASA Center to undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who are studying engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or computer science.

Department of Commerce Internship for Postsecondary Students
Oak Ridge Institute for Science & Education
This program provides opportunities to participate in hands-on education and training related to the Department of Commerce mission.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Student Research Participation
Oak Ridge Institute for Science & Education
Provides opportunities to participate in research and development relating to science, math, and engineering.
