Limited Submissions

Databases of external funding opportunities

COS Pivot (Community of Science): Pivot combines the most comprehensive, editorially maintained database of funding opportunities worth an estimated $33 billion with a unique database of 3 million pre-populated scholar profiles. Its algorithm compiles pre-populated researcher profiles unique to VCU, and others, and matches them to current funding opportunities in the COS database. This allows users to search for a funding opportunity and instantly view matching faculty from inside or outside VCU. Conversely, a search for a scholar will link to matching funding opportunities. We strongly recommend that you create or update your COS profile/account in order to manage your searches.

Foundation Directory Online: This unique database includes information on the more than 98,000 foundations, corporate donors, and grantmaking public charities in the U.S. and 1.7 million of their recent grants. To access, contact Jessica Venable.

Resources for Graduate Students: The VCU Libraries have created and maintain the Grants and Funding for Graduate Students Research Guide, where you'll find a variety of resources to find funding for research. Graduate students can also use this “Cheat Sheet” to assist them in using various databases to search for funding for their needs. For individualized grant search assistance contact the Graduate School.

Free Databases and Lists:

  • grants.gov: Searchable database and e-mail notification for all federal funding opportunities
  • RFP Bulletin: Receive a free roundup of recently announced Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from private, corporate, and government funding sources from the Foundation Center.
  • FundSource: a free online database of research funding specific to behavioral and social science research.
  • Michigan State University Libraries: A comprehensive listing of grants and related resources for individuals and organizations arranged by academic level, subject, and population group. Also includes a section on international and foreign grantmakers.
  • H-Net: Tracks and lists Humanities and Social Sciences funding announcements.
  • NYFA Source: A national directory of awards, services, and publications for artists.
