Human Participant and Animal Subjects Research

Human Participant Education
Preparing IRB Submissions
This workshop will provide an overview of the IRB review and approval process. The primary emphasis will be on practical tips for completing the IRB Research Plan Template and other key IRB submission forms. Workshops are targeted specifically to either Biomedical or Social and Behavioral research.

Ethical Considerations in Social Behavioral Human Participant Research
This workshop will provide an introduction to Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and an overview of the key ethical considerations researchers should be aware of when conducting human participant research. Workshops are targeted specifically to either Biomedical or Social and Behavioral research.

5th Thursday Human Participant Protections Series
Targeted to research coordinators and administrators, research nurses, investigators, IRB members, and IRB staff, this series features various speakers and topics relevant to the conduct of human participant research. Session I is for IRB members only and Session II is open.

4th Friday Research Coordinator Network
This monthly session includes topics on the conduct of research and targets research coordinators.

Conducting Animal Research at VCU
This orientation is required for new and new-to-VCU researchers. Orientation and updates are offered semi-annually.

3rd Friday Lab Technician Network
Various topics in animal research are presented and discussed among lab technicians and those involved in animal research.
