Office of Research Subjects Protection (ORSP)

The mission of the Office of Research Subjects Protection (ORSP) is to facilitate the institutional review of human and animal subjects research at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). In support of this mission, ORSP performs five basic functions:

  • Aids faculty with protocol preparation;

  • Guides faculty through the protocol submission and review process;

  • Develops web-based guidance materials to serve as resources for faculty, staff, students, IRB and IACUC members and staff;

  • Interprets regulatory requirements; and

  • Coordinates the work of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
