Welcome

The Office of Research Integrity and Ethics (ORIE) serves as an ethics, compliance, and educational resource to faculty, staff, students, IRB and IACUC members and staff, and interested research participants at VCU. We view the ethical conduct of research and research compliance as the result of an understanding of ethical principles that form the foundation of federal and state regulations for the protection of human and animal subjects in research. Your questions and concerns about possible non-compliance in research are approached as educational opportunities for investigators and research staff.

ORIE services and activities include:

  • Post approval monitoring and education
  • Conflicts of interest in research
  • Virginia-Stem Cell Research Oversight (SCRO) (under development)
  • Crisis Management Task Force for Animal Research
  • Scheduled educational programming, as well as group or class presentations on request
  • Managing CITI training and AALAS Learning Library for human and animal research, respectively
  • Managing inquiries and follow-up on noncompliance
  • Consultation with IRB and IACUC members, investigators, and research personnel
